Dear Dirty Dozen competitor,
Unfortunately we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the Dirty Dozen 12km trail run that was due to take place on 4th October at Grizedale.
This decision has been forced upon us by the weather in the area and we held out in hope that we would not have to take this step. The field planned for the event participant parking is now water logged as is the second and third (and final) contingency.
With the pressures the weather has put on the parking in the area, and on the event in general, the Dirty Dozen has had to be the element that gave within the Dirty Weekend format. Following consultation with the landowners and the Forestry Commission we are not confident of being able to accommodate the number of vehicles and the pattern of movements the Dirty Dozen will bring. With safety of paramount importance and the quality of competitor experience being threatened, the Dirty Dozen will not be able to be run this time.
Thank you for supporting the Dirty Dozen and we hope to see you at another event in 2009.
Please contact us with any questions on info@allinthedetail.com.
Kind regards
The Dirty Weekend Team
Now listen Up! The Dirty Dozen 12k is a new trail running event inspired by the rugged and stunning Grizedale Forest Park. It will be a brand new route, clearly way-marked and making use of the awesome terrain. The Dirty Dozen 12k is part of a whole weekend of adventure sport called Dirty Weekend. HQ is the Grizedale Visitor Centre with free camping*, mess tent serving local ale and adventure sport concessions.
A tough assignment awaits you in the woods and hills around our HQ. It's a full 12km of hilly trails, roads and a water splash, ascending from the valley into the Forestry Commission's ordered forests above, before returning to the Centre. If successful in your mission you will be presented with a Dirty Weekend t-shirt to mark your achievement. Enter as solos or teams of three (you don't have to stick together).
The "military" theme is more Dad's Army than Saving Private Ryan, should you wish to run in your fighting fatigues, camp it up in your finest scrim netting or just wear regular gear. Either way, you will be tabbing through forests and over hills to achieve 12km that you will remember - a hard fought adventure run through some great countryside.
*Needs to be pre booked.
