Run Format

The Course

The onus of the Dirty Dozen 12k is on fun but this is also a serious challenge. We will save you the maps and the navigation with this mission following a fully way-marked course on roads, tracks, forest roads and some off-road terrain, steep gradients and a touch of water. However, you're never far from home and when you return to the applause of your supporters in the event village, you'll feel a great sense of achievement from having run the Dirty Dozen 12k. This distance will be a great chance for those wanting to "test the water" with this type of off-road challenge. Don't make it a "KM Too Far" at the event however and do get some training in beforehand. Get the Ups and Downs conquered and get some shoes with grip.

Classes and Prizes

Choose to run as a solo or team of three - male, female or mixed. Team members do not have to stick together. The overall male and female winners will be awarded locally hand-crafted trophies and we will also have outdoor kit prizes awarded to the male and females in Rookie (16-17's), Regular (18-49) or Veteran (50-70), courtesy of outdoor gear connoisseurs and our sponsor, Ellis Brigham. There will be more spot prizes at the prize-giving ceremony in the Dirty Weekend marquee for those who have shown bravery in the face of great adversity, delivered exquisite comedy value or helped to make the occasion memorable in some shape or form.

Kit

You are asked to carry suitable clothing for the prevailing weather conditions, and in the worst weathers we will insist that you start with full body cover. Perhaps bring a bum-bag or similar to carry this gear on the race. You are strongly advised to use running shoes with good grip and carry some basic first aid provisions and a whistle for summoning help, should you need it.

Uniform

Want to look as Dirty as the 12 unshaven and Dirty kilometres that you will be running over? Compete and complete as solos, teams, squads, platoons, dozens, bakers dozens or small armies. Who knows, perhaps we will see Captain Manwaring amongst you, or Sgt Bilko, or G.I.Joe. Otherwise just get yourself to the start line in appropriate kit for the conditions as mentioned above.

Dirty Weekend add-ons

All around you (at Dirty Weekend) there are other adventure events and activities; ACE Races and the Polaris Challenge are where many adventurers have graduated to after starting with trail runs and recreational mountain biking. Take a look on the day and even consider entering the second day of the Polaris Challenge on the Sunday - 5 hours on a bike with a map in hand.
